Consequences for Driving with a Suspended License in Israel

Driving a vehicle while one’s driver’s license has been suspended is considered one of the most severe traffic violations in Israel. A person’s license might be suspended for a set amount of time when a court convicts them of a serious driving offense (e.g., drunk driving can carry the penalty of a two-year suspension of one’s driver’s license in Israel). 

Driving with a suspended license is considered a grave offense because it demonstrates a gross disregard for the authority of the courts, and also because the driver has already been shown to be dangerous to public safety. It can be assumed that the driver is under additional stress since they would fear being caught, thus increasing the risk to the public.

Accordingly, the penalty for driving with a suspended driver’s license can be as high as permanently revoking one’s driver’s license and up to three years’ prison time. Therefore, it is very inadvisable to drive a vehicle if one’s license has been suspended.
